In the center of the plot is Ivan Lutoshin, a neurologist by profession and a loser in life. He finds out that he has an inoperable brain tumor and he has six months to live. He decides to commit suicide: after getting drunk, he goes out on the expressway and stands on the lane. But the car manages to pull out of the road.
